On the CommunityConnect Labs platform, there are four types of flows:

  1. Messaging

  2. Phone Call

  3. Background

  4. Surveyor

The flow type you select determines which channel the flow will run over (text messaging, phone call, or offline messaging).

Messaging

The text messaging flow is the default flow type. Select this flow type to send text messages to your contacts. Text messaging flows can be sent over an Android channel, a virtual number, or a social media platform like Twitter.

Phone Call

The “Phone Call” flow type is only available on accounts that are connected to a voice-enabled channel, such as a voice-enabled virtual number purchased from Twilio.

Selecting this flow type will give you the ability to create an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) flow. IVR flows allow you to build a flow using voice-based messages (rather than text messages) sent via phone calls. For a more detailed explanation of how this works, check out Introduction to IVR.

Background

Select the “Background” flow type to create a flow that will run in the background of the system, without interfering with active flows. This could be used to group people, update specific information, etc...

Surveyor

Select the “Surveyor” flow type to create a flow that will run offline using our Surveyor Android application. For a more detailed explanation of how this works, check out Introduction to Surveyor.
